MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. (CBS Tampa) - An off-duty U.S. Marshal on vacation accidentally left his loaded gun in the dressing room of a clothing store.
The NWF Daily News is reporting that the officer, who was not named, left the gun in the Kenneth Cole located inside the Silver Sands Outlet Mall on Sunday.
A customer happened to find the gun, and alerted a store employee of its presence. She then contacted the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived as the officer returned to the store, having realized his error.
“He felt pretty awful about it,” Catherine Rodriguez, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office, told the paper.
After checking his permits and licenses, the U.S. Marshal was released.
